Today it was reported that Facebook and EBay have been told to get a handle on the "fake reviews" that are used on the platforms for products in the Facebook Marketplace or EBay for sale posts. According to the article, "the Competition and Markets Authority said it had found troubling evidence of a thriving marketplace for fake and misleading online reviews". I believe this is interesting because it essentially follows some of the same problems that plague these sites, especially Facebook. Social media sites are a haven for fake news and these reviews are no different. The wild west nature of social media needs to change, and this article is one of the reasons why. It is important that Facebook and EBay take steps to prevent misleading their users in news and in shopping.
