Journalist Escapes Death While Taking Pictures of the Gunman

On June 17th, a masked gunman, carrying a high powered rifle, open fired in Dallas outside a federal building. Although no one was hurt, there was mass panic before the gunman was shot down by the police. Tom Fox, a photographer for the Dallas Morning News, braved death in order to document the shooting incident. Fox was right in front of the building when the gunman, Brian Isaack Clyde, appeared and open fired.

“Your journalistic instincts just kick in,” Fox said. “You use the camera almost as a shield. I also felt a journalistic duty to do all that.”

The photos offered a rare insight into an active shooting from the point of view of someone who is in the path of danger of getting shot at.
