I watched the
movie “Nightcrawler” about freelance journalist, Louis Bloom, who stakes out
the streets of Los Angeles in order to catch violent events that take place
late at night. He then sells the footage he captures to television news
stations. I found that this movie displayed a dark satire of local television
news stations, and media in general. The film depicts “television news as a ratings-hungry, ethically questionable monster.”
The film shows the dark side of media, media outlets can’t cross the line when
it comes to the content they report on if the line doesn’t exist in the first
place. I found this film to be an interesting outlook on how far journalists
are willing to go to get a story and push ratings.
