Fakes News: Episode 1

"Many fake news stories are also written to create 'shock' value"

As you are all well aware, fake news has become a major problem in today's society. In my research, I have stumbled upon on what is perhaps one of the better strategies that can be used to combat this courtesy of our friends at Mind Tools.

Perhaps one of the best, and often overlooked way to determine if something is fake news is to check the URL itself. There are many extensions that are use these days for websites (not just .com or .org or .net) and often sketchier sites use off-brand ones like .info or .offer. In my experience, sites with Russian URLs are particularly insidious.

I don't know if any one you have ever registered a domain name before, but in the world of URLs, websites, and domains, .com tends to lend the most credibility to a website. That being said, one still has to remain vigilant.
