Playing with Emotions

The effects of the Kremlin's disinformation efforts have been felt in both the United States and Europe, but more recently divisive campaign tactics have been domesticated by extremist parties on "both extremes of the political debate in Europe" (Birnbaum). Recent examples of elections across the world have seen a rise in acceptance of anti-Globalist sentiments and "far-right" politicians. Misinformation campaign tactics get a voter base riled up, possibly making it easier for more extreme viewpoints to find a foothold in the anxiety built up on both sides of the aisle. These recent examples show that this is no longer a battle against one foreign entity, the Kremlin.
