Fanning the Flames

Censorship and especially propaganda have always some of the more un-American values associated with Communist Russia. Have these forms of disinformation campaigns gone away? Recent examples say no. According to a Poynter article about the topic, Russian disinformation organizations are "less likely to be... the origin of disinformation, yet they may seek to increase the perception of popularity of certain... sentiments" (Decker) to make them seem viable for public debates. The Russian news network RT has even shown efforts to popularize the shocking debate about vaccinations in America. Even if a misinformation post isn't convincing, the thought that real people may believe in it is what can scare voters into being susceptible to new solutions. Their goals are not as simple as "increase divisions". Misinformation about "5G cell phones" and vaccines could slow progress in the US's development in both technology and medicine.
