It isn’t an exaggeration
to say that the idea of fake news is taking over the media. With some
politicians referring to anything they don’t agree with as fake, there has been
a boom in internet users double-checking their news sources. While many would
think that the rise in infirmity about fake news would lead to more informed constituents,
The Atlantic believes the opposite is happening. In an article published
in June, they suggest that “the rise of fake news is making it harder for
people to see the truth”. Because of the hesitation we now have when coming
across an article, we are more likely to jump to the conclusion it is fake news,
since we know how easy it is to manufacture an article to say whatever we want.
