There
is a new method of detecting fake news developed by researchers from MIT
Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence (CSAI) and Qatar Computing
Research Institute (QSRI). They are
using machine learning to establish if a news source is accurate or politically
bias in their reporting. The premise is
if the source has published fake news in the past, they are more likely to do
it again. Computers review 150 stories
from a source and score their reliability.
They consider language used, their Wikipedia page and structure of URLs. This method has proven to be 65 -70%
accurate. Preslav Nakov co-author of the study said,
“Tools like this could help people give a bit more thought to issues and
explore other perspectives that they might not have otherwise considered."
