Here are two front pages out of Arizona that stood out to
me today. The first notable feature is obvious; all the stories are the same.
This is easily explained since both papers are based out of the same area but
go to different cities. However, this was not what initially caught my eye when
investigating front pages. While most front pages choose to display their most
effective photo as the largest element on the front page, the largest element
on both papers is a computer drawn image. The shadow of a clergyman is shaded
orange and transforms into a demon as it is cast over a kneeling child. The
article reports, "109 clergyman accused of sexual assault cases"
involving Catholic Churches in Arizona, and the author of the article likely
chose this image to create a powerful juxtaposition between how clergymen are
supposed to be and how they are seen. The number is staggering as well and was
likely included as a subtitle so that the reader would take note of the amount.
