It’s customary to be nervous before taking a test, and often people describe it as feeling anxious. Test anxiety however is a real psychological disorder can is described as feeling “an intense fear or worry” before a test. It is a type “performance anxiety, because there is pressure to do well in a specific situation.”  Many college students are afflicted with this disorder but go undiagnosed. For example, the common symptoms such as racing thoughts, blanking out, negative thoughts of past performances, fear and helplessness are disregarded because they are normal emotions to feel when nervous. However, people fail to understand the magnitude of these emotions afflicted individuals feel. It often leaves one nauseous, breathless and dizzy. In other words, it can be described as a panic attack. This disorder is often not taken seriously by parents and guardians of students. In fact, often students themselves do not recognize this as a real problem, leaving unable to understand the cause of their poor performance.
