Filtering What You See

Facebook and Twitter have options for media users to choose what they want to see. On twitter people can block certain hashtags or words so that those are not seen in their timelines. On Facebook, people can like certain pages so that only information related to the pages they’ve liked is available to them. Limiting your news can limit your views of the world but it can also keep you safe from disinformation. “The news traditionally was given some independence, insulation from financial and political pressures,” said a scholarly article. Society does have independence in what we see, post, and believe, so it is really good that we are able to choose what we see; whether it’s limiting or exposing ourselves.
