Disinformation on Your Feed

Social media is a huge aspect in people’s lives in today’s world. Due to this, being a social media influencer is now a career option. For some celebrity’s and other social media influencer’s advertising on their social media platforms is a part of their job. But in a lot of cases these influencers are not researching the products they are promoting to their followers, they’re simply promoting a product for a pay check even if they have not used this product themselves. Yet in their ads for the product they talk about how much “they love it and use it.” Companies use influencer’s with a following as a marketing tool, and these influencer’s only help sell the product to consumers even if doesn’t work which contributes to the spread of disinformation. Despite this Instagram, “has largely escaped scrutiny” however, “the platform is likely where the next great battle against misinformation will be fought.”
